Blade's Burden

Play as a sentient sword, called a Soulblade, and take control of any character who picks you up.

Lead a company of Soul-bound heroes across a fantasy world, based around Germanic folklore/mythology.

Blade's Burden is a turn-based fantasy strategy RPG in the vein of Civilization and Heroes of Might and Magic. You play as Ban, "the Banter Blade": a cursed Soulblade who has lifted three kingdoms to glory and walked out the day each one began to fall. He's awake again, his old bearer is gone, and the Wild Hunt has taken over what he once held together.

• Explore a procedurally generated hex-map world. Fog of war, rivers, roads, and ruins. Every run has a new map, with lairs to clear, towns to recruit from, and wandering warbands to avoid.

• Four campaigns across 900 years. Play the Reclaimer, Folkling, and Unliving eras, each one revealing more of Ban's long lifetime, or start in the present day and decide Ban's future.

• Fight on the map, with no loading screens. Combat is tactical and happens right where your units stand: flanking, zones of control, terrain, line of sight, and abilities with cooldowns.

• Command a company of individual heroes. Warriors, Bloodletters, Seers, Hunters, and Sanctifiers each level up, gain gear, and move on their own.

• Rebuild Blade Keep. Upgrade your fortress to unlock healing, recruits, and services. It's the base that carries your company through the campaign.

• Choose your allegiance. Side with the Reclaimers, the Folklings, or the Unliving, or play them against each other. Your reputation and alignment change how the world treats you.
